Passion for People and Fair Policies
During the FY 2010 budget deliberations, Councilmember Brown fought to ensure the continuity of critical programs and services to help District residents. His efforts focused on ensuring equal distribution of funds, rather than allowing the budget to be balanced on the backs of the economically disadvantaged residents.

Commitment to an Inclusive Policy Agenda
Councilmember Brown made it a priority to bring stakeholders to the table to fully inform his policies and produce the best options for District residents. As just one example, he held the first Latino and African-American business summit that brought together Councilmembers, agency representatives, and construction firms to strengthen opportunities for minority businesses.

Dedication to Respect and Civility
In performing his oversight responsibilities, Councilmember Brown collaborated with multiple partners on a variety of issues and co-introduced legislation with every single one of his Council colleagues. He has also maintained positive relationships with DC Government agency directors.

Pledge to Forge Community Partnerships
A compassionate advocate, Councilmember Brown worked with the DC Alliance of Youth Advocates to sponsor the first Youth Advocacy Day to support youth programs and services. He also partnered with the
local business community to provide thousands of dollars in gifts, groceries and clothing to area charities during the holiday season.

Working with Greater DC Cares on Martin Luther King Day, he cleaned and painted classrooms at Simon Elementary School (Ward 8), and restocked the library at Ron Brown Middle School (Ward 7).
