Budget and Oversight

  • Restored tens of millions of dollars in effective programs that focus on addressing the city’s safety net, environmental, and small business support programs.
  • Led the effort on the Council to restore funding for the city’s safety net programs and small business supports through progressive tax reform which would have created two new high-income tax brackets.
  • Reigned in issues of poor performance, budgetary waste, and overspending regarding the District’s Summer Youth Employment Program.
  • Highlighted concerns regarding the DC Department of Employment Services and the Workforce Investment Council’s planning and implementation of our city’s workforce development system through oversight hearings and roundtables which culminated in a thorough Special Committee Report.
