Constituent Services

Constituent Services is the engine that drives Councilmember Brown’s office. Whether responding to constituent calls for help, attending community meetings, holding stakeholder discussions with various constituents groups or visiting with victims of senseless crimes or mourning loved ones, Councilmember Brown is devoted to the people he was elected to serve. He has attended Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) meetings as well as community and civic group meetings to remain current on the issues and concerns of District residents.

Councilmember Brown has established several stakeholder groups with whom he meets with on regular basis. These groups include labor unions, faith-based organizations, educational advocates, statehood advocates and the diplomatic corp.

Labor Unions – Learning from those who live, work and do business in the District, Councilmember Brown and the Washington Council of AFL-CIO co-hosted a “Breakfast Roundtable Discussion” for 85 local labor leaders and representatives to discuss bread-and-butter issues and future opportunities for labor workers in the District.

Interfaith Outreach – Councilmember Brown and local interfaith leaders hosted a “Welcome to DC” reception for Reverend Joshua DuBois, Special Assistant to the President and Executive Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. The reception also welcomed D. Paul Monteiro, Associate Director of White House Office of Public Engagement.

Educational Advocates - Councilmember Brown has addressed numerous District public and charter schools on the importance of education. He engages parents, students, teachers, administrators to collectively “place education front and center” in order to improve the plight of young people attending DC public schools. Among the schools Councilmember Brown has visited include: The Ron Brown MS, Miner ES, Shepherd Park ES, Charles Hart MS, Jefferson MS, Archbishop Carroll SH, Ballou HS and Harriet Tubman ES.

Tapping Resources of the International Community – In an effort to reach out and tap the hidden resources of the diplomatic and international community, Councilmember Brown has addressed 75 career consular and diplomatic officers about the DC government structure and how to conduct business in the District. Brown encouraged diplomatic missions to get more involved with the District Public Schools’ “Embassy Adoption Program.”
